Position Overview:

The Configuration Specialist will support the configuration management process within the IT department by maintaining accurate records of IT assets and configurations. This role focuses on ensuring the integrity of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), tracking configuration items, and supporting change control activities. The Configuration Specialist will also perform manual updates to IT system configurations and manage user access rights according to predefined instructions and requests.

Key Responsibilities:

• Configuration Data Maintenance:
• Regularly update the CMDB to reflect current IT asset information, including hardware, software, and network configurations.
• Perform routine audits to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the configuration data.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies in configuration records.
• Manual Configuration Updates:
• Manually update configuration parameters in IT systems according to predefined instructions.
• Ensure that manual updates are accurately recorded and documented within the CMDB or relevant system logs.
• User Access Management:
• Grant, revoke, or update user rights in IT systems according to approved requests and established procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of access changes and ensure compliance with security policies.
• Assist in periodic reviews of user access rights to support compliance requirements.
• Support for Change Control:
• Assist in documenting changes to configurations, tracking updates to hardware, software, and other assets.
• Collaborate with change management teams to ensure that configuration changes are properly recorded in the CMDB.
• Verify the impact of configuration changes and ensure appropriate relationships between configuration items.
• Reporting and Documentation:
• Generate reports related to configuration items, including version histories, dependencies, and discrepancies.
• Document configuration processes and procedures to support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with IT teams to understand configuration requirements and dependencies for various systems.
• Assist in communicating configuration processes and standards to relevant stakeholders.
• Provide support for configuration-related queries and requests.

Qualifications:

• Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience in configuration management, IT asset management, or IT support roles is preferred.
• Technical Skills:
• Familiarity with configuration and asset management tools (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Helix, Ivanti, Atlassian Assets) is a plus.
• Understanding of basic IT asset management principles, version control, and access management.
• Experience with data entry, data management, and manual configuration updates within IT systems.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure data accuracy.
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with other IT teams.
• Analytical thinking and a problem-solving mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a cloud or hybrid IT environment.
• Basic understanding of change management and user access management processes.
